Even though decades have passed since the ruthless tyranny of the Khmer rouge, its people are still at war today – fighting against poverty.

In 1901, the french funded an expedition to Bayon and began restoring the majestic planes of Angkor. The same year, 200 tourists had arrived within the first 3 months. today, they count at over 2 million a year.

This endless stream of visitors brings hope to the livelihood of many Cambodians, and death to the crumbling temples of Angkor.

Both the ancient homes of the gods and its people now share the same plight.
