Honouring Gods Inside a Live Volcano
Like Bali, Bromo is uniquely Hindu, set within the predominantly Muslim Indonesia. In fact, Bromo is derived from the Javanese pronunciation of Brahma, the Hindu creator god. During the Yadnya Kasada festival, Hindus make offerings by throwing fruits, vegetables, money and livestock into the crater. The ceremony honours Acintya, along with the Trimurti gods, Shiva, Brahma and Vishnu.
